Dealing With Lack of Support From Friends & Family

A common theme that often comes up with my cofounder as we’re building our business is the lack of support that we often feel from those that are closest to us. This has been very hard to understand and get over at times. Often when we tell family and friends about what we’re doing the responses range from either light enthusiasm, to not helpful, and even discouraging at times. It can be really hard when you’re pouring your heart out building something every day and having those closest to you just not know how much their encouragement means. It’s important to understand that not everybody is going to have the same enthusiasm for what you’re doing and that’s OK. That’s to be expected and you shouldn’t be doing it for the feedback of others but basically because it’s where you get enjoyment. Plus if they’re not your target market then it really doesn’t make a difference if they like it or not because most likely they’re not gonna be representative of the people that you’re building for. It helps to keep perspective and not have too many expectations of support from friends and family.
